I bought this for my office. Brought it home, and when husband returned from Afghanistan, he appropriated it. The sound is great for the price. Probably not the quality of Bose, but what average person can afford Bose??? So, I'm deploying to Iraq, and meant to take the speaker system with me for my room. No doing. Husband wants to keep it here at the house. So, I bought another one to take. It comes with a remote control, which is very handy to fast forward, mute, etc from my desk. Not a bad price considering the quality of the sound, and the small footprint.
 broken dock connector August 24, 2010

It worked well for about two years. Yesterday it stopped recognizing when a phone or ipod was plugged in. After taking it apart I found that the dock connector had a very small piece of plastic broken off which prevents the metal contacts in the connectors from mating snugly.
Despite this flaw I am considering buying another. Two other brands of docking stations I have owned have had the same weakness which comes more from Apples choice of connector than anything else. It would be nice if Altec Lansing would sell replacement connector boards. The board is small, cheap (worth $1.50 max) and easy to replace.

I had it for a little over a year. It stopped seeing the iphone and the ipod. Turns out it was the little piece the phone plugs in to. Called altec lansing to get the broken part. Turns out they won't sell them. Now it is a $150 dollar piece of junk. It is a sham not shame that they pronounce their "environmental policies" but a full machine will go to the landfill instead of a small part.
Stopped working when iphone 3GS is upgraded to iphone 4.0 software August 16, 2010

I bought this 7 months ago. It was working fine for iphone 3GS until i recently upgraded my iphone3GS to new software release of 4.0. It stopped working after that giving "not-supported" message on my iphone.
Was not able to access the support OR able to find any information to fix this after that. I can no longer dock my iphone to the speaker. It's disappointing.

Bought them in Nov used about 10 times and in 6 months speakers not only do not produce sound but makes buzzing noise. Customer service for RMA and warranty non responsive from Altec Lansing. On the site they say this model is discontinued-so buyer beware!
